Minto Cup Recap- Game 3

The opening buzzer was still echoing when sniper Adam Charalambides scored in the opening minute. This initiated what would be the most offensive game in the 2016 Minto Cup Finals.

The Coquitlam Adanacs were led by Jean-Luc Chetner who had two goals and five assists while Adam Charalambides scored four goals and two assists for the Orangeville Northmen. After the first period was done both teams were tied at 4-4, while Coquitlam owned the second period scoring the only three goals. In the final frame Orangeville tallied two quick goals to make it 7-6 but Coquitlam answered back with a pair of their own and the game finished 9-7 in the Adanacs’ favor.

After the game, Northmen Head Coach DJ Clevely admitted his room was a bit deflated, “obviously (they’re) discouraged, we would have liked to win that one but we now have to win two in a row.”

While it appears the Adanacs are taking a tactical approach, “(the dressing room is) pre-game right now. It’s nice to think about this big win but we are thinking about tomorrow. We’re thinking it is 2-1 them or even 0-0 not 2-1 for us. We start thinking about that and things stop going our way,” said Assistant Coach Kyle Sorensen.

Ontario has been dominating the Minto Cup winning five straight years and nine of the last ten with the only exception being the 2010 Coquitlam Adanacs. Coquitlam looks to close out the series on Sunday inside the LEC.
