3 STARS: Rees Thrives After Walter Trade

by Owen Munro

1ST STAR - CARSON REES, PORT COQUITLAM SAINTS

3 GAMES - 4 GOALS - 7 ASSISTS - 11 POINTS - 23.5% SHOOTING

The Port Coquitlam Saints likely won't be making the playoffs this season, and they admitted as much by shipping Clark Walter to the Langley Thunder ahead of the Trade Deadline. That means more opportunities for Poco's younger players to get some valuable experience, giving them a chance to step up in the lineup and make some noise before the 2020 season rolls around. One of those has been Carson Rees, who posted a 7-point night in a 14-8 win over the Delta Islanders last Friday night.

He's currently scoring at a three-point per game clip, the highest of his career so far, while either his shooting or the places he's getting to on the floor seems to have improved with an uptick in his shooting percentage. Rees will be one of the players Poco will count on from now towards the end of the year, and so far he looks up to the challenge.

2ND STAR - BRODY HARRIS, DELTA ISLANDERS

2 GAMES - 86 SHOTS AGAINST - 21 GOALS ALLOWED - .755 SAVE PERCENTAGE

In what has been a bit of a rough year for the Delta Islanders, goaltending has been a bright spot. The veteran tandem of Matt Hills and Brody Harris have stood tall against the opposition, despite routinely being peppered with shots. Harris has been up to the task for much of the season, putting together one of the best of his career. He faces some of the highest shot totals in the league - he's 4th in shots against with 532 despite playing at least 100 minutes more than the three goalies ahead of him. Despite that, his goals against average sits at a respectable 11.53 per game.

This all comes despite playing behind a below average offence. Delta is currently last in the league in goals scored with 109. Harris won't have sparkling stats if his teams can't score eight goals per game.

3RD STAR - ANTHONY KALINICH, LANGLEY THUNDER

2 GAMES - 0 POINTS - 2 PIMs

Sometimes the impact you make on a game won't be on the score sheet, and that's exactly what Anthony Kalinich is about.

The tough-as-nails defender has been improving each year with the Thunder and is looking to make the Minto with a chance to play in front of his hometown fans. Kalinich provides Langley with a different edge when he's on the floor (or field when he's at the LEC). His impact goes beyond numbers, he brings awesome leadership and is a deserving captain for the club after winning the NLL Championship with the Calgary Roughnecks.

Kalinich was named as Langley's Player of the Game in a recent 12-8 win over the Burnaby Lakers.
