Adanacs look to repeat as Minto Cup champions after winning provincial title in Game 6
VICTORIA - The Coquitlam Junior Adanacs won yet another BC Junior A Lacrosse Championship, doubling up on the Victoria Shamrocks 12-6 in Game 6 of the best-of-seven championship series, booking a ticket to the 2025 Minto Cup being held in St. Catharines, Ont., Aug. 16-23, at the Meridian Centre.
Jack Kask stopped 34 of 40 shots to lead the Adanacs to victory, with strong team defence and great transition play helping Coquitlam to hold off several charges from Victoria in the game. Ryan Colsey scored five goals for the Adanacs, while Cody Malawsky (1G, 5A) and Jaxon Dillon (2G, 4A) each had six-point games for Coquitlam.
The Adanacs special teams were a major factor, with two powerplay goals and two shorthanded goals on the day. Coquitlam's powerplay in the post-season was 22-for-43, operating at 51%.
For Victoria, Jett KlassenĀ led the way with three goals, and Angus Snow made 31 saves on 43 shots.
Coquitlam, competing in its 9th Minto Cup in the past decade and third in a row, will travel to Ontario looking to repeat as Minto Cup champions. The Ontario (Whitby and Orangeville are tied 2-2 as of Aug. 9 entering Game 5 in the final series) and RMLL (Raiders vs Mounties, tied 3-3 entering Aug. 10's deciding Game 7) champions are still being decided, while the St. Catharines Athletics are the host team with an automatic berth in the tournament.
