BCJALL 3 STARS: Lumb Sets Early Scoring Pace
The first two weeks of the BCJALL regular season have showcased some of the close games we have come to expect in the last few seasons. All eight teams have proven they can be a threat to win if their opponent doesn't come to play a full 60 minutes. Even the Nanaimo Timbermen, who sport a 0-5 record so far, have shown progress and ability every night, with some good individual performances to boot.
1st STAR - BRAYLON LUMB, VICTORIA SHAMROCKS
LAST WEEK - 3 GAMES, 11 GOALS, 6 ASSISTS, 17 POINTS
Lumb has plied his trade in the BCJALL for a few seasons now, and even two years ago showed flashes that he could be a dominant scorer for the Shamrocks. He had a sock-trick against Island rivals Nanaimo on Tuesday night before following up with three goal, one assist performance when they hosted the Port Coquitlam Saints on Sunday.
Victoria has a lot of offensive players which makes sharing the wealth even easier, but Lumb has had a strong start to the season regardless. He leads the BCJALL in points (25), goals (15), tied-second in power play goals (4) and has a pair of short-handed markers to boot.
2nd STAR - DYLAN FOULDS, PORT COQUITLAM SAINTS
LAST WEEK - 2 GAMES, 5 GOALS, 8 ASSISTS, 13 POINTS
Foulds returned to the Saints lineup this week and was immediately relied upon to put the ball in the net. He was already coming off a breakout Sophomore season at Penn State, where he scored 21 goals and 32 points on 59 shots - good for a 35.6 shooting %.
He started right where he left off for the black and yellow, where he added five goals and a pair of four-assist games in a pair of ties for Port Coquitlam. He's formed a valuable partnership with Jacob Patterson, who's had a breakout season since an offseason deal with New Westminster. He was especially valuable on the second-half of a back-to-back, where he helped the Saints work off their sea legs with three goals in the first 40 minutes.
With a couple of big games against New Westminster and Langley, defenses will be under pressure to figure out Poco's high-flying offense, much of which has been made more dangerous by Foulds' return.
3rd STAR - COLTON LIDSTONE, NANAIMO TIMBERMEN
LAST WEEK - 3 GAMES, 5 GOALS, 9 ASSISTS, 14 POINTS
Colton Lidstone was a mainstay in the top five scorers last season, back when the BC Intermediate A League was still a thing, Now Lidstone has made the jump to Junior A in style, quickly making a name for himself with his goal-scoring and ability to find open teammates on the floor.
His abilities have helped Nanaimo keep pace with three quality teams over the last week. His five points helped keep the T-Men in the game on Tuesday against Victoria, and then helped propel Nanaimo in the third period of Sunday's contest. He joins a promising team with a solid core of dependable young players like Jake Mickelson, Thomas Vaesen and Will Johansen that will keep the team competitive over the course of the season.
