BCJALL Opens 2026 Regular Season with AN Exciting Opening Weekend
The 2026 BC Junior A Lacrosse League regular season officially got underway this past weekend with four exciting matchups, featuring high-scoring performances, one-goal finishes, and strong opening statements from teams looking to begin the year on the right foot.
Friday Night Opener: Adanacs Hold Off Saints in High-Scoring Battle
The regular season began Friday night, May 15th, as the Coquitlam Adanacs hosted the Port Coquitlam Saints in the first game of the 2026 BCJALL season.
Fans were treated to an offensive showcase as the Adanacs came away with a 13-11 victory in a fast-paced matchup between the two Tri-Cities rivals. Coquitlam’s offense found its rhythm early and continued to generate chances throughout the night, while the Saints continued to battle back and kept the game within reach until the final minutes.
Both teams received strong performances from several of their offensive leaders, with transition play and special teams becoming key factors as the game progressed. The Adanacs were able to capitalize on timely opportunities offensively while getting key saves late to secure the season-opening win.
Despite the loss, the Saints showed resilience throughout the contest and proved they could compete offensively against one of the league’s top programs, setting the tone for what would become a busy opening weekend for Port Coquitlam.
Shamrocks Defend Home Floor Against Saints
The action continued Saturday afternoon as the Port Coquitlam Saints travelled to Vancouver Island for their second game in less than 24 hours, taking on the Victoria Shamrocks at 3:30 PM.
Victoria successfully defended home floor, earning their first win of the season after a strong all-around team performance. The Shamrocks used balanced scoring and disciplined play to control stretches of the game while continuing to pressure the Saints in transition.
Port Coquitlam once again showed offensive flashes despite playing the second half of a difficult back-to-back road schedule. The Saints continued to battle throughout the game, but Victoria’s ability to capitalize on key opportunities and maintain momentum proved to be the difference.
The Shamrocks’ defensive group and goaltending also came up with several important stops throughout the game, helping preserve their advantage and allowing the home side to start the season in the win column.
Thunder Edge Islanders in Weekend Thriller
Saturday night featured the closest game of the opening weekend as the Langley Thunder narrowly defeated the Delta Islanders by a final score of 7-6 in a tightly contested battle.
The game remained close from start to finish, with neither team able to create much separation offensively. Both goaltenders turned in strong performances while the defensive intensity increased throughout the second half.
Langley managed to find timely scoring in crucial moments, including the eventual game-winning goal late in regulation. Delta continued to push until the final whistle and created several dangerous opportunities in the closing minutes, but the Thunder were able to hold on for the one-goal victory.
The Islanders showed plenty of positives in their season opener, particularly defensively, while Langley demonstrated composure in tight-game situations early in the season.
With the win, the Thunder opened their 2026 campaign with an important two points against a divisional opponent.
Salmonbellies Finish Weekend Strong Against Timbermen
The final game of the opening weekend took place Sunday afternoon as the New Westminster Salmonbellies hosted the Nanaimo Timbermen.
The Salmonbellies delivered a strong performance on home floor to close out the first weekend of regular season action. New Westminster’s offense generated chances consistently throughout the game while their defensive unit helped limit Nanaimo’s opportunities during key stretches.
Nanaimo continued to compete hard throughout the matchup and showed flashes offensively, but the Salmonbellies were able to control momentum for much of the contest and execute in important situations.
Several players on both sides made strong first impressions to begin the season, with physical play, transition opportunities, and special teams all playing important roles throughout the afternoon.
The matchup wrapped up an exciting opening weekend that gave fans an early look at what should be another highly competitive BCJALL season.
