New Westminster Salmonbellies to Host 2007 Minto Cup
Commissioner Al lang of the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League announced that the New Westminster Salmonbellies will host the 2007 Minto Cup Championships in August 2007.
"We are honoured to have been selected as the hosts." says team Governor Walt Weaver. "The league governors voted for the first time to model this event after the Memorial Cup of Major Junior Hockey, by announcing the host team a full year in advance."
"This will give us the opportunity to properly put in place all the volunteers and schedule all the events and advertising around this national championship."
"Although we are the hosts," Weaver says, "We view this as a league event and we have the full support of all the teams to contribute to its success. Playing at Queens Park Arena and on our new wooden floor provides the best venue in the country for our championship."
"As hosts, we will be one of two teams entered in the national final along with teams from Alberta and Ontario. Dates for this event are the last week of August 2007. The teams will play a round robin format with the championship game being a one game sudden death final."
