Timbermen stay perfect with pair of weekend wins

The best story of the BCJALL in the early goings of the 2019 regular season continues to be the Nanaimo Timbermen, who felled another two teams en route to a sparkling 4-0 record, keeping pace with the Coquitlam Adanacs with an undefeated record.

The T-Men welcome the Saints to the Nanaimo Ice Centre and despite a slow start that saw them go down 3-0,  eventually took advantage of some tired Poco legs with a dominant third period defensively. They were able to hold the black and yellow without a goal in that final period on 16 shots, with Colin Jeffrey making a number of key stops along the way. Nanaimo would erase the Poco lead with 4:56 left when Ontario import Kyle Dawson potted one; Dawson would score again two minutes later and the T-Men wouldn't look back.

Nanaimo turned to Justin Geddie to play in goal on the second half of a back-to-back, this time with Nanaimo taking the ferry over to play the Lakers. It was a sign of how much progress Nanaimo has made over the last season as they scored early and often, including a 6-goal second period that gave them a comfortable 10-4 lead heading into the third.

A number of players posted strong offensive weekends for Nanaimo. Ryan Sheridan again led the way with 13 points in the pair of games while Thomas Vaesen had 12 points. Dawson had a strong debut weekend for Nanaimo, capping it off with a 5-goal performance against Burnaby.

Nanaimo will look to extend that unbeaten streak in a rivalry game against fellow Islanders Victoria on Wednesday in Cowichan. Victoria sports a 4-3 record and have played three more games than Nanaimo, so it will be a good litmus test for the Timbermen to see if they're for real or not.
